Delft3D-FLOW validation

Hi everyone.

I'm applying the Delft3D model to analyse morphodynamics processes at Fernando de Noronha Archipelago (Brazil). I've never used numerical models for oceanic islands before and I'm having problems with Deft3D-FLOW validation. The model domain includes a wide range of depths and a narrow, steep island shelf. I think these can be the complicating factors, increasing model instability. Actually, I've been testing a rectangular 2D grid with the island in the center (350 m resolution), using water level boundaries and only astronomic level and uniform wind as boundary conditions. I already tried to set a maximum depth to 1000 m after the bathymetry interpolation and smoothed the depths located after shelf, but even so the results do not change too much. I tested several combinations of coefficients (roughness, viscosity and wind drag), but I couldn't define one that works well for the velocity components.

Has anyone had problems applying Delft3D-FLOW for oceanic islands? Does anyone have any suggestions about the grid, bathymetry and boundary definitions? I really need help.

Thank you so much.
