hi, I wanted to model a vegetation patch with diameter 10 cm in a flume with 1 m width, I have the same problem and
The flow velocity in the vegetated area is quite similar as the flow velocity at the open channel (non-vegetated area), I wanted to know could you find the problem or not?

Hi there,
I am currently trying to model a channel with vegetation with Delft3D: the vegetation width is 2/3 of the channel width. The model itself runs smoothly however the model result seems no as good as I expected. The flow velocity in the vegetated area is quite similar as the flow velocity at the open channel (non-vegetated area), and velocity difference is only 0.5 cm/s. However, from the experimental data there is larger velocity difference between the vegetated flow and open channel flow, around 10 cm/s. It seems that the vegetation do not have a 'blocking effect' to slow down the flow in the Delft3D model. Can anyone help me with this problem? I attached my vegetation input file with this post also.

By the way I also try to model the channel fully covered with vegetation, but the result is quite good and quite similar with the measurements. Thanks!

Xiaohchen
