Access Dflow FM model results during model run

Hi there,

When runing DflowFM model with DelftShell, there will be a folder named DFM_OUTPUT_proj-name generated within the folder proj-name_outout. The his, map, restart netCDF files are all stored there. I found that during the model run, the his and map netCDF files are keeping zero Bytes, until the model finish.

Regarding Delft3D, once the model start runing, the results store immediately in tri-his and tri-map files (depends on output start and stop time of course). The advantage of this setting is that once the results are not good, I can stop the model immediately for saving time.

Is there some way to get the results during model run of Dflow FM rather than accessing them only when the model finished? Thanks so much!

Dear Peng,

The solution is, after importing a model to DeltaShell, you could save the project before running the model. For instance, you could save the project as name "test". Then the output files can be found in the folder "test.dsproj_data\*_output\dflowfm\dflowoutput", and can be accessed during the simulation. Sometimes, the output files show 0 byte, but actually data has been written there.

To sum up, the key is to save the project before running the model.

Kind regards,
Jing Zhao

Hi Jing,

Thanks very much for the solution.
It is my mistake for this question, because one has to refresh the output folder. TotalCommander is too lazy to refresh. After refreshing, the nc files are not zero Bytes anymore.

There are two things I would like to share here as well:
1.By using Deltashell to start model, indeed, one needs to first save the model as a project. Then the outputs can be find at a new folder creating by the Deltashell. If not, one have to find the results in temporary folder of Windows (not easy).
2.By using the Command Line Interface, the output file can be stored in the same folder of your model.

Cheers,
Peng

Hi everyone,

i am still confused about how to actually look at the map results. I am working with the beta version Delft3D FM 2018.03 in Windows 7. As soon as i start the model run the Gui is blocked by the running process window. I can locate the *.his and *.map files in the output files. However - how can i look at them in the Gui?

Thank you for your help.
